In Los Angeles he has been heard in the Hollywood Studio Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, Monday Evening Concert Series, and in motion picture & recording sessions from such as BMG Killer Tracks, Poo-bah Records, and Touchstone Pictures. Smith has earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Edward Carroll, Vinny Golia, and John Fumo. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music with tutelage of James Thompson. At Eastman, he was featured as a "Rising Star”, performed in the Eastman Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, and freelanced in upstate NY. During the summers, he attended the Lake Placid trumpet seminar and the Music Academy of the West. During high school, at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Smith studied trumpet with Stanley Friedman, was principal trumpet of the IAA orchestra and served as Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. At age 16, he was awarded first prize in the Savannah Symphony Concerto Competition and performed as a soloist with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra. |
